Bishoujo Senshi

Sailor Moon Z

A cold rain began to fall around him, drenching him as he stood in the cemetery at the foot of a grave. Tears formed in the corners of his blue eyes and fell to his face, mixing with the raindrops before hitting the ground. This was a nightmare, he always told himself. A nightmare he just couldn't wake up from. Dressed in a black suit he kneeled down without hitting the muddy grass and set a rose on the ground. He never opened up and sobbed, he hadn't done that since he heard the news. Exactly one year ago he had been in New York City in America, working on the plans for an extension of his company to be built within the next few years. He arrived at his hotel after a lunch meeting to find a message from his wife waiting for him. He played it and her frantic voice filled the room. He never forgot that message, her telling him they were being robbed. A desperate shriek filled the room and the line had gone dead. He called his mother to find out what had happened and had learned that his wife of two years had been raped and killed. Anger had flooded him but it was nothing compared to what went through him when he heard the second half of the story. His wife had been one month pregnant. The phone fell out of his hands and tears filled his eyes and for the first time in his entire life, Trunks Briefs had cried.

"If I had been there that night..." He said, before he turned to another head stone that rested before a much smaller grave. Usually unborn children were written off and not given a burial, their existence wiped from the minds of everyone as though they had never existed during that short time. When Trunks learned of it, he waved a lawsuit in the doctor's faces and the child had been given an official death certificate, the cause of death listed as homicide. The killer had been found and Vegeta wanted to give him a piece of his mind, which, translated, meant he wanted to shove a Big Bang Attack down his throat. Trunks had somehow convinced his angered father that the killer would have a much worse time in prison since it was shown that anyone convicted for the harm of a child in any form was almost always the target of hatred for inmates. He DID promise Vegeta however that once the man got his first parole Vegeta could kill him if he wanted to. He read the head stone which had the name 'Kireina Rose Briefs' on it. No birthdate, only her death date written on it. The design on it was a rose and had the message 'I love you' next to it. Taking the rather large bouquet of roses he held, he sat them on the grave and stood up again. The rain continued to come down when an umbrella covered his head. He looked over his shoulder to see his little sister, Bra, standing behind him.

"Papa said you came here again." She explained. Trunks looked back to the graves one last time before walking off, opening his own umbrella over his head. Bra sighed.

"I don't think he'll ever be the same again..." She told herself. Shrugging, she walked back to her hover car to return home before her mother started to worry...

Trunks parked his car outside of his home, not the house where the murder had occurred since he had moved shortly after the funeral, and went inside. He had grown depressed and had considered taking up drugs but decided against it. He wanted to stay in shape incase a new threat arrived on the Earth so that he could take his anger out on it. Goten had refused to spar with his best friend since he never knew when Trunks would fight for real or just spar anymore. Life for the man had just gone from bad to worse. He had considered using the Dragonballs to wish his family back and even tried, but he was told that it was impossible, Shenlong had been denied that power. Outraged at that he demanded why but when Shenlong said that could not be told Trunks canceled the wish, scattering the Dragonballs again. Rummaging through his rather large refrigerator, the demi-saiyajin pulled out a 'light snack' and moved to the table to prepare the meal. Placing the small mound of food on the counter, he went for some plates and paper towels to minimize the mess he knew he was going to make. Grabbing a plate and a roll of paper towels he walked back and sat them down as he began to prepare himself something to eat. After a few minutes he had his food prepared and in a few seconds it was gone.

"Note to self: restock...food...supply...a.s.a.p..." He said as he wrote it down on a sticky note before posting it on the refrigerator. He walked to the staircase and went to go upstairs to his bedroom. A knock on his front door got him to turn around and head back downstairs to the door directly before him.

"Who's there?" He asked as his hand went for the bronze handle. There was no answer so he opened the door and looked around. No one was there so he assumed he had been the butt of a kids prank. Nothing like what he'd pulled in his day, but effective none-the-less. He turned to return inside but as he did, a noise caught his attention. It sounded remarkably like a child. Returning his gaze outside, he happened to glance down to see an infant laying there. Dropping to his knees instantly, he gently lifted the child up.

"What the hell...?" He whispered as he pulled the blanket from its face. Blue eyes, identical to his own, stared right up at him. He gasped a little at the sight of those eyes. The child made no real motion, it just stared at him for the longest time as if imprinting his image onto it brain. Trunks spotted an envelope laying on the ground, with an elaborate seal on it. Lifting it up as well, he pulled the letter out and looked at the paper. As he read it, he was quite thankful that the entire walkway right infront of his house was covered to block the rain. He gave the letter a once over.

'               Trunks Briefs:

I have learned of your loss and I am quite sorry. But you should know

that destiny always has a way. The child is named Serenity, she is one

year in age. Protect her for us, because I am certain that you are the

one who can. Do not worry. I am sure she will find a place in your

heart.'

"Serenity? So you're a girl?" He asked the child as he stood up, holding her in his arms. He looked at the letter again to find the signature of the person who left her there, but there was nothing except something written in a funny language. He turned and went inside with both the child and the letter. From around the corner, a pair of garnet eyes watched him.

"Okay then Serenity. It's nice to meet you. I'm Trunks, your new 'Tousan." He told her, the pain of the loss of his unborn child evaporating quickly. The letter was right. She already had...

*              *                *                *                *

" 'Tousan! 'Tousan, I can't find it!" The voice called out from the upstairs bedroom in a frantic manner. Trunks looked up from a stack of business papers that had been giving him a slight headache and sighed in relief. Getting up from the kitchen bar where he had been sitting, he walked to the staircase and looked up to the bedroom door.

"Can't find what?" He called back. A blonde head poked out of a bedroom door that was next to a bathroom decorated with stick on bubbles and smiley faces. Her blue eyes stared at him.

"My dolly that Bra-obasan bought for me!" She wailed. Trunks grinned a little as he ascended the staircase. His father had purchased the doll and had Bra take the credit for it, but it was the thought that counted. He moved to the room that was decorated with stars and rabbits and crescent moons and filled to the brim with stuffed animals and such. He stood in the doorway to see the five year old looking franticly for the china doll she loved so much. Turning his gaze over to the closet on his right, he opened to door to see a small mound of toys and such and on the top sat Kaguya. It was named Kaguya after the princess in the story 'The Bamboo Cutter' that Gohan had once read her. Trunks lifted the doll up and held it out to his daughter.

"Here ya go Bunny." He said, handing it to the happy child. He had gone from calling her Serenity to Serena and then to Bunny, which was her accepted nickname. Everyone called her Bunny except for Vegeta who often called her Buns, referring to the hairstyle she had taken on. Pretty much, as far as the outside world knew, Bunny was her name. She never told anyone her name was Serenity, only close family and friends knew that. She hugged the doll and then hugged her father. Trunks rubbed her hair and kept grinning. He kneeled down to her height, and poked her nose a little. She giggled and poked his nose back which prompted him to lift her up onto his shoulders, something she loved. He had recently spoken with his mother, who had reprimanded him for not taking Bunny over there in so long. Bulma was having a get together soon and had decided that Trunks needed to bring Bunny along. Every one would be there so it'd be a perfect opportunity for the others to see her again. For the most part she was adored by them, except for Piccolo who had never shown much care for her one way or the other. He didn't hate her but at the same time he didn't really like her and she tended to avoid him.

"Say, I've got an idea! How about we head for Obaasan and Ojiisan's?" He asked. Bunny's blue eyes went wide as her smile grew to match. She loved going there and she hadn't seen them in about two weeks so she was just fine with it.

"Yea! Yea! Let's go 'tousan!" She cried happily. Trunks smiled some and decided to tease her a little, something he had fun doing. He dropped her onto her feet and gave a skeptical look. Bunny blinked, wondering what he was doing.

"Well, I guess we won't if your not excited about it..." He told her. Bunny whined and grabbed his hand, tugging.

"I wanna go see Obaasan and Ojiisan! Please 'Tousan! Please, Please, Please!" She begged. Tears formed in her eyes as she kept saying 'please'. Trunks lifted that arm up, which pulled her up as well.

"Well...okay, I guess so." He told her. Bunny let got of his arm in a flash and was hugging him as best the five year old could. Trunks grabbed a pair of sneakers that would fit her tiny feet and a blue jacket before carrying her down the stairs. He remembered when Bunny was still a new addition to the Briefs family. For the first month, she never slept at night and always had nightmares, which drove the young man to coffee. Luckily for him since his family and the Sons loved the child, they always offered to watch her for Trunks. Out of everyone, she seemed to get along with Goten the most. Goten had always wanted to watch her, of course It was usually to find dates, but she got free trips to the park without promising to do a lot of extra exercises. She didn't train hard due to her age and race, but she was required to do some jogging, a few simple sit-ups and push ups, and light martial arts training. Nothing much at all, something she could master. Trunks would raise it as she got older of course, but for now that was the limit. Standing infront of the main door, he sat her down and went to put her shoes on her feet and let the independent child put her own jacket on as he put his on. It was his Capsule Corp. jacket that made him almost identicle to his mirai counterpart. Actually, the formerly 'chibi' Trunks was now not that much older than when Mirai had come to warn them about the androids and came to dress like him on occasion. Like today. After taking an old picture of him and Mirai out he matched his clothing to his counterpart's.

"Let's go 'tousan!" Bunny cried happily and ran outside to wait on her father. Trunks set the house alarm, closed the door and locked it behind him. He stuffed the keys in his jacket pocket and lifted Bunny up into his arms before floating up and flying off. Normally he'd take the car but he hated traffic jams and poor little Bunny got car sick at random points. He felt the girl tighten her grip around his neck as she close her eyes. Pulling her closer he decided to power up and hurry on to Capsule Corp.

"Obaasan! Ojiisan!" Little Bunny cried happily as she ran from her father towards the large building with the words 'Capsule Corp.' written on it. Trunks walked behind her as she went inside and zipped down the hall to one of the large 'family rooms' where he could feel the Sons waiting. When dressed like Mirai, he liked to know who he was going to shock. He stood in the doorway to watched Bunny bounce around Vegeta like she'd had too much coffee or something. She was just excited, all kids got excited for some reason or another, weither it was a good thing to be excited over or not. Trunks used to get excited when he and Goten would pull off some prank, Goten got excited around food. Neither knew what excited Gohan, though Trunks had a theory that it was something like studying. He shook his head and grinned as he saw his father lift Bunny up. The child giggled happily as she latched onto her Ojiisan's arm. Vegeta looked to Trunks and hesitated a moment, thinking for that split second he was looking at Mirai again, before speaking.

"Haven't you taught her to fly yet boy?" He asked. Trunks shook his head and walked over to sit on the couch. As he did, Bunny dropped to the ground and hopped into his lap to sit there. Trunks rubbed her back a little, something that usually kept her calm.

"Not yet." He told him simply. He wouldn't say because Bunny was a human and not ready since the child was raised to believe that she was one quarter Saiya-jin like Pan. He didn't want her knowing he had lied to her, but in a small way he hadn't. It was assumed she was human but blood tests done my Bulma had indicated that she wasn't exactly human. How that was going to affect her later on in life wasn't exactly clear yet, but Trunks had a sinking feeling that he'd find out some day. But for now he was just going to live everyday. He'd taken his past for granted and it came back to bite him hard. Bunny was ready to go to sleep but before she could, Goten snatched her up and rubbed her nose a little. The little girl smiled happily.

"Hi Goten-Ojisan!" She squealed. She'd gotten into the habit of referring to Goten as her uncle since he was over all the time. Goten didn't mind at all, you couldn't get mad at this kid. When she would get upset big crystal tears would fill her blue eyes and would lose that happy-go-lucky attitude. Goten tossed her up and down a little, catching her each time, her laughter filling the room before her ploped her her onto his shoulders.

"Hey there Bunny." He said, a grin on his face. The child hugged his head before placing her chubby hands over his eyes. Everyone in the room, with the exception of Bulma and Chichi, raised their powers so Goten wouldn't bump into them.

"Now Ojisan can't see!" She announced. Goten pretended to stumble around, trying to find out what had happened.

"Hey, who turned out the lights?" He said, fake confusion in his voice. Bunny, who thought it was real, finally pulled her little hands away.

"Fooled ya!" She said excitedly. Goten pulled her off him, sat her down, and started to tickle her. Bunny laughed and squirmed, trying to get back to her father so he could protect her. Goten wouldn't let her just yet.

"Tickle, Tickle!" He told her, as she kept squirming around. She managed to free herself and climbed into her father's lap as she panted heavily. Goten gave a smug grin and returned to his seat, knowing what was to eventually come. He grabbed a throw pillow to be safe. At this time, Bunny was sitting on Trunks's lap as she listened to the adults talk about one thing or another. It went way over her head when they began talking about a robbery that occurred the night before.

"Another jewelery store got broken in to." Bulma said to her son who lived pretty close to the recent activity. Trunks nodded as he rubbed Bunny's back.

"I know. Police were looking for their man and came to my house. I'm glad Bunny was asleep. That's the third robbery in two months. This guy must be pretty sure of himself." He admitted. which was true. What had stumped him and everyone else was that the three stores were located in seperate cities. West City, Satan City, and Tokyo were all hit and the theif was never caught, which creeped the Z Senshi out. That wasn't possible, or it wasn't supposed to be for humans. Were they dealing with some new force? Trunks hopped not since he had Bunny to raise. Kireina had died so Trunks made sure Bunny wouldn't suffer the same fate. One would think that if Trunks had truly been concerned with her safety that he would keep her from fighting from such a young age, but it was because he did that he made her fight. He would hate for her to be jumped by some thugs and have no way to defend herself. She knew the basics and in time she'd be quite powerful.

"Did you hear the theif left a message this time?" Gohan asked. His mother turned to her oldest.

"No I didn't. What'd he say?" She asked curiously. This time Goten spoke up. He had heard about this as well and found it interesting.

" 'I won't stop until I find it.' " He said. No one had any idea what 'it' was and probably wouldn't find out until this guy told the world. Bunny gave a small yawn and closed her eyes. It was past nap time for her and Trunks knew he would NEVER get her down for the night. He lifted her up but Goten was there to take her off his hands.

"Here, lemme get her to a bed." He offered as he gently held the little girl in his arms. Trunks turned her over to his best friend as he sat back down. Goten took her to her room where she stayed when visiting Bulma and Vegeta. At first he thought he had heard something come from her, something that sounded like crystal or whatever, but soon shrugged it off. It was more than likely his imagination working on him. Opening the door, he walked in and moved to the bed to put her down. He did so and went to the closet to grab her stuffed rabbit that was as big as she was and put it on the bed. He leaned down to turn the nightlight on when he noticed something. Bunny had her hand over her heart as though she was clutching something. Goten, being the curious individual he was, walked over and lifted her shirt up to look. His eyes went wide.

"Tr...Trunks? Trunks!! Get in here!!!" He shouted at the top of his lungs, glad Bunny could sleep through Majin Buu tearing the place down. He heard the man run towards the room, followed by the others. Goten looked back at her chest. Directly over her heart was a mark that hadn't been there before. That didn't bother him, it could have been a rash or something. The mark looked at though a sword had been driven through her chest and it was bleeding...
