Bulma Briefs, You have been selected...
Disclaimer: I don’t own DBZ.
Hey peeps! Thanks for the R/Rs. Please read the notes at the bottom after the story. I need someone to ‘talk’ to, and who better than my readers?
Steal after my heart, would you?
Bulma sprang at her phone when it rang. She picked it up earnestly.
“Hello?!”
There were several moments of silence.
“Hellllooo?”
“Yes, is this Miss Briefs?”
Bulma paused. That wasn’t the type of answer she was hoping for.
“Why, yes, it is.”
“Oh great. I hope you know that you’re one of our most valuable customers-”
Oh shit…
“-and I would like to interest you in buying this new-”
“DAMN STUPID SALESPEOPLE!” Bulma shouted in the receiver. “YOU MORON (that’s my favorite word)! CAN’T YOU SEE I’M WAITING FOR A VERY IMPORTANT CALL?!?” Bulma slammed the phone down on the hook, crossed her arms, and huffed.
The phone rang again. Bulma eyed it angrily for a moment, and picked it up on the second ring.
“Hello?” she said.
“Well you don’t sound too happy…”
“Chi-Chi!” Bulma exclaimed.
“Yep!”
“Hey girl! How’d you thing with Bardock go?”
To Bulma’s surprise, Chi-Chi laughed. “You won’t believe this Bulma!” she giggled, taking in several breaths to calm herself.
Chi-Chi then told Bulma the whole story, including the old hag at the beginning.
“So now I get to go over to Bardock’s house every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday to help Kakarroto study,” Chi-Chi said happily.
“Ahhh, I think you and him are going to do more than that, Chi-Chi,” Bulma teased. “I see he’s already fingering you. Putting his hands on your breasts…”
“BULMA!” Chi-Chi interrupted. Bulma could tell by the tone of Chi-Chi’s voice that her best friend was blushing, and Bulma laughed. “He did NOTHING of the sort! He was just… helping me up! That’s all….”
Bulma sarcastically laughed once, telling Chi-Chi she didn’t believe it. “Whatever Bulma. You’ve got a sick and perverted mind, you know that?” Chi-Chi ranted. “You take everything the wrong way!”
Bulma sighed. “Sorry Chi. It just seemed kind of funny to me.” Chi-Chi snorted on the other end of the phone.
“Well, I’m glad that you’re ok Chi-Chi. And I’m glad at all this good news! But I better let you go so you and I both can get strait to work on our homework.”
“Ok Bulma. Bye!”
“Bye.”
She hung up the phone.
The days seemed to fly by, as Bulma found homework piling up on her. She was a bit surprised that Chi-Chi could even keep up, having to help Kakarroto added to her agenda. But she seemed thrilled with her job, and maybe it was just paranoia or loneliness, but Bulma seemed to see her best friend hanging out with Kakarroto a lot more than herself.
And as if that wasn’t bad enough, Zoë followed the prince everywhere. It was as if she was a dog on a leash, and he was her loyal master. And when he wasn’t around, she’d use every chance she got to tell someone about how close she and Prince Vegeta were, and that she was positive that she would be one of the 5 girls chosen.
Bulma was more alone than ever, and she only found relief by talking to Hector, (not much fun) or doing her homework.
But soon the Friday of next week arrived, and Prince Vegeta’s soon-to-be-posted decision was on every Sayian’s mind. Or at least, every female. Bulma seriously thought that a muzzle, if used properly, would not shut Zoë up.
And Vegeta wasn’t at Poleino High that day either, which gave Zoë even more time to chat. Like she needed it. Her mouth was getting pretty annoying by the time school ended, and Bulma was the first one out of the building, not even allowing Chi-Chi to catch up with her. She was sure that Kakarroto would keep her company. Chi-Chi had to tutor him today, anyway.
Bulma slowed down after several minutes, and sighed. She moved at a stroll, kicking a pebble along with her. In her slightly depressing state, Bulma walked right past her own home, and it was only about a minute later that she realized it.
Bulma stepped into her house, and plopped down on her couch, exhausted from nothing she could figure out. She placed her arm over her eyes, and just lay still, hoping she’d dissolve into sleep.
But it wouldn’t come.
Bulma growled, rolling over into a more comfortable position. After a few moments, it still wouldn’t come. Something was nagging at her mind.
And she knew just what it was.
“On computer!” Bulma shouted at it, sitting up. She got herself a drink as the computer screen blinked and sprang to live. She took a sip of her drink, strolling lazily over to it.
“Good afternoon Bulma,” her computer greeted in that same tone.
“Yea, yea, Hector. Skip the chit-chat today, ok?”
“Having a bad day, I presume?”
“Shut up.”
“As you wish.”
“And bring up mailbox.”
“As you wish.”
Bulma sighed. Hector’s new catch phrase. Oh well. At least it wasn’t ‘complying’.
“Messages received.” Bulma looked up, reading the headlines, and slurping from her drink. Most of it was junk, but one was from Chi-Chi. And another odd letter particularly caught her eye.
“Hector, delete messages 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7. Open 4.”
“As you wish.” Bulma rolled her eyes as Chi-Chi’s letter popped up. Bulma smiled. It was short, and sweet. And at least it proved that her friend cared.
“Shall I read the article allowed?”
“No thanks Hector. I can read it.”
Dearest Bulma,
Hey girl, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’ve sort of drifted apart. You also seemed a little down in the mouth yesterday, as well as today. Are you ok? Is this about Kakarroto? I bet it is. But still, send me a message back Bulma, please!
I really hope you’re doing fine; and before you comment on it, no Kakarroto and I have not done anything, ‘unusual’ yet.
Your worried friend,
Chi-Chi.
Bulma smiled. “Hector, set up a reply letter to message 4.” It obeyed. “All right, we’re drafting.
“Dear Chi-Chi,
Yea, I actually have been feeling pretty glum, and it partially has to do with Kakarroto. He’s sweet and all Chi, but you two always seem to be together, and I feel sort of ‘left out’. And part of it is Zoë. The girl can’t keep her mouth shut, as I’m sure you’ve noticed.
Thanks for the letter Chi-Chi. That was wonderfully sweet of you, and it brightened my day a little.
Sincerely,
Bulma.”
“End draft. Send,” Bulma commanded.
“As you wish.” The window on the screen disappeared as the letter was sent. Bulma stared at the remaining notice in her mailbox. It was from, ‘The Palace’.
“Open 6,” Bulma said. A screen was brought up, showing the contents of the notice.
“Shall I read the article allowed?” Hector asked in its mechanical voice.
“Sure.”
“‘Greetings, Bulma Brief, student at Poleino High, from the Royal Palace. After careful study from our honorable Prince Vegeta, he has chosen 5 respectable possibilities for the position of the next Queen of Vegetasei.’” Bulma looked up abruptly.
Could this be…
“‘The list reads as following:
Zoë Halimanger, Daughter of Philip Halimanger III
No big shocker there.
Madonna Freeman, Daughter of Isaac Freeman Sr.
Who the hell is that?
Iiovana Veen, Daughter of Nathaniel Veen VII
Lots of men in her family with that name.
Cleopatra Taylor, Daughter of Douglas Taylor
Isn’t that one of Zoë’s snooty friends?
Bulma Briefs, Daughter of Joseph Briefs
Oh…… my……
“‘Bulma Briefs, you have been selected by respectable Prince Vegeta. Be at the Palace tomorrow morning, and not a second later than 1000 hours. Look for Phoenix. He will brief you on everything else you need to know.’”
Bulma couldn’t believe it. Her mouth was sagging, her eyes were wide, and she was silent for a while.
“Quite a shocker, isn’t it Bulma?”
Bulma dropped her drink; it spilt all over the floor.
Sorry bout the cliffhanger, again. I know you guys are just about to choke me.
Author’s notes
Right, well. This is just a little something I’d like for you guys to read. I feel so depressed and nervous at the time I wrote this, and, I don’t know, I suppose I want someone to confess it all out to.
So… on Saturday 15, around 8:45 PM, I said it over IM. I told the guy I had a crush on, that well, I had a crush on him. Talk about nervous. I was shaking, couldn’t type right, and my teeth were chattering. Don’t ask. I’m naturally a nervous and shy person.
It took a long while for him to drag it out of me. First, I told him that I had a crush on a guy, and of course, human curiosity kicks in; he wanted to know who. Well, the problem is, I don’t think he likes me back. He said he felt ‘so-so’ about this girl in my class named Lillian, and he denies feeling any way about anyone else
And he also used to have this BIG crush on Lillian too. He was writing ‘I love Lillian’ all over my math notebook one math period. Don’t ask. I don’t even know why myself. I erased all the writing. I didn’t want someone else to read it and think I was a lesbian or something.
But anyways, I’m getting off track. When we were talking on IM, I made him promise that he wouldn’t refuse to talk to me after I told him. He said ok, and when I told him that I, ‘thought he was hot’, he didn’t say anything for a while. And know what he said?
‘Ok.’
Thanks Adam! (that’s the name of the guy I like) That made me feel much better!
Well I know I must be sounding stupid. I’m telling everyone about my love life. And if you guys are going to comment on my little piece of literature, I’d like to tell you something about Lillian first. Lillian’s a sweet girl, and one of my closest friends. Plus, the fact of her not liking him back helps a lot. So don’t say anything rotten about her, ok?
Thanks for reading you guys. I needed to get that out of my system.
And for a Christmas present, I think I might just post several chapters at one time.
Happy Holidays!
